Özet

There are two important local artichoke cultivars in Turkey: Saliuz and Bayrampasa. Bayrampasa, mainly grown in Marmara region, is a late cultivar while Sakiz, mainly grown in Aegean, is known as an early cultivar. The mediterranean region has suitable ecological conditions for early artichoke growing. But it is not commonly grown in this region, although new plantations have been set up recently. Therefore the studies on determination of optimum GA(3) concentrations and awakening irrigation time for globe artichoke (Cynara scolymus L. cv. Sakiz) grown in Mediterranean region of Turkey may have a special importance for the growers there. In this study, the effects of different GA(3) concentrations (25 ppm, 50 ppm and 25 ppm twice application and control) and awakening irrigation dates (20(th) July, 20(th) August and 20(th) September) on earliness, yield and some quality parameters were investigated. Experiments conducted for two years revealed that awakening irrigations and GA(3) applications advanced the head formation. According to results obtained from the present study the most optimum time for awakening irrigations is mid-August and optimum GA(3) treatment is the twice application of 25 ppm GA(3).
