Özet

Gündemdeki önemli gelişmelere medyada nasıl ve ne oranda yer verildiği
medyanın tutumu yanında ele alınan gelişmelerin seyrini ortaya çıkarması
bakımından büyük bir önem taşımaktadır. Buradan hareketle bu çalışmada, gerek
siyasal ve gerekse sosyo kültürel ve ekonomik açıdan büyük önem taşıyan
Türkiye’nin Avrupa Birliği üyeliği sürecinin basında nasıl yer verildiği
incelenmiştir. Çalışmada bu kapsamda Türkiye’nin en fazla okunan gazetesi olan
Hürriyet gazetesinde Türkiye’nin AB üyeliği süreciyle ilgili haberler ve köşe yazıları
incelenmiştir. Yapılan incelemede dönem olarak ilerleme raporlarının yayımlandığı
aylarda sunulan haberler seçilmiştir. İnceleme sonunda Türkiye’nin AB ile üyelik
sürecinin tıkandığı dönemlerde basının ilgisinin büyük oranda düştüğü, sürecin
olumlu olduğu dönemlerde ise önemli ölçüde arttığı tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca sürece
ilişkin olarak haberlerin sunuluşu ve köşe yazarlarındaki bakış açısının da süreçteki
gelişmelerle paralellik gösterdiği ortaya çıkarılmıştır.

The fact that how and at what rate does the media give coverage to the
important developments on the agenda is crucial in terms of both the media’s
attitude and also bringing out the course of the developments being discussed. From
this point of view; how Turkey’s European Union membership process which is of
great importance in terms of political, socio-cultural and also economic aspects is
having coverage in the media is analyzed in this study. Within this scope, the news and articles related to Turkey’s EU membership process in Hürriyet Newspaper
which is the most read newspaper in Turkey is analyzed in the study. News which
are presented in the months when the progress reports were published have been
selected in the analysis. At the end of the analysis, it has been determined that
media’s interest has been decreased to a large extent when Turkey’s EU
membership process has obstructed and has increased considerably when the
process was progressing in a positive way. In addition, it has been determined that
the presentation of the news regarding the process and the viewpoint of the
columnists shows parallelism with the developments within the process.
