Özet

In recent years, floriculture has become a booming branch of horticulture in Turkey, especially in the Southern and Western regions. Main crops grown in the area are spray and standard carnations, gerbera, gypsophila and some other flowers. As in many other sectors, floriculture in Turkey has some problems as well: marketing, lack of knowledge, beating costs, limited number of crop species. Increasing the number of floricultural crops is one of the priorities of the sector. The Turkish flora is, however, one of the richest in the world, with quite a number of promising species for floricultural purposes. These species need to be selected and taken under cultivation. Dogroses are considered among these promising species. They have recently become popular in some of the Western European countries as cut branches and in wreath making along with some other native plants.
