Evaluation of the Bonding Performance of Current Adhesive Systems on Caries-Affected Dentin

Özet

Introduction: The aim of this study is to evaluate the long-term bonding performance of existing universal adhesives to sound (SD) and caries-affected (CAD) dentin using microtensile bond strength test, electron microscopy (SEM), and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CSLM) images taken from bond interfaces. Materisals and Methods: A total of 120 sound and decayed human molars were ground to a flat surface by lowering the dentin level with a precision cutting device until the soft caries lesions reached the hard dentin layer. The surface microhardness was determined by Vickers microhardness test by applying 25 g load for 15 seconds and divided into 3 groups (sound dentin-SD, two levels of caries-affected dentin-D1 and D2). Dentin samples were divided into 4 subgroups; Group 1: Peak Universal Bond (PUB)+ Self-Etch (SE), Group 2: PUB+Etch and Rinse (ER), Group 3: G-Premio Bond (GPB)+SE, Group 4: G-PB+ER. A nanohybrid universal resin composite structure was prepared on the specimens. After soaking the specimens in 37 C0 distilled water for 24 hours and 1 year, the microtensile bond strength (μTBS) test and fracture type analysis, resin-dentin interface analysis by SEM and CSLM were performed. One-way analysis of variance (One-way ANOVA), Scheffe multiple comparison test and independent t-test were used for statistical analysis and the significance level was set at p≤ 0.05. Results: After 24 hours, the SD group at PUB-SE recorded the highest bond strength value (36.80 MPa), and the D1 group at G-PB SE recorded the lowest value. (17.60 MPa). After a year, the SD group at G-PB SE recorded the highest bond strength value (30.38 MPa), while the D1 group at PUB SE recorded the lowest value. (16.67 MPa). Conclusion: It was found that the Vickers test was a useful tool for differentiating between SD and CAD, that the bond strength of universal adhesives to CAD was significantly lower than SD, and that there was a significant difference between the various modes of application.
