The benefits of solid waste recycling systems to ecology has long been known. Today, there is also a growing acceptance that solid waste needs to be regarded as an economic resource and that solid waste recycling systems contribute to the sustainable development of society. The objective of this study is to demonstrate the importance of recycling in solid waste management systems by determining its economic contribution to an organization. To this end, the basic applications in a compost and recycling establishment were taken into consideration to determine the most contributive composition. 18 different waste groupes were taken into consideration and a variable was assigned for each waste group. A linear programming problem was formulated using these variables. Solution to this model was obtained by LINGO package program, which provided the combination of waste that maximizes the profit.
