Özet

This book contains emerging philosophical approaches for diffuse optic tomography (DOT) modality The book summarized why this research area is stuck, and progressive steps could not be taken. As a general, diffuse optic imaging (DOI) modalities have been suffering for a long time. Because it has many disadvantageous, such as perturbations which occur randomly, and changing the experimental conditions immediately. Thus, mathematical modeling approaches are becoming inefficient and insufficient for changing circumstances, consecutively. In the past 3-4 decades, researchers have taken too many harsh struggling efforts, but none of them have prevailed against the low accuracy of this imaging modality, unfortunately. From all over the efforts, one can summarize that, applied methods are using the same philosophical approaches which fails. No novel approach, and no useful methods were applied for better performance and accurate imaging quality. It can be roughly described that DOI modality is stuck in nonemerging scientific research area. But one can think that it might be possible to take better and high accurate image results, since the penetrating diffuse light is illuminating inside the tissue even it was low energized white light which migrates from the imaging tissue surface where the photon migration can be determined with the help of Rytov or Born approximation of the radiative transport equation (RTE) for pre-defined semi-infinite tissue geometries. Researchers have also tried some different methods to acquire better high quality images, but from the initial point, they had not thought deeply enough, such as some researchers tried penetration input angle source and detector positions method, which was also thought and shown that it had also been useless. But these researchers never hesitated to spend high amount of costs for testing method which was mathematically proven that it does not bring anything except chaos. They set up awfully expensive time resolved diffuse optical tomography (TRDOT) biomedical optic imaging systems which involves single photon-counting photo-multiplier tubes, cooling units, big dark laboratory rooms, optic tables, optic materials. Because they have the technology resources and, they wanted to use this technology without building useful philosophy for specific research like big companies and research institutes generally do it. They have more than enough resources, but they are not thinking deep enough. For example, one of the new attempts that they tried using is different input angle method. According to this method, they sent and collected the time resolved photons with the input angle from tissue surface. But this method did not help for better image quality, since the photon accumulations which are defined physically have exponential temporal decaying functions and photon hotspots will be superficial and undistinguishable. But, some researchers have also used high density multi-source and multi-detector geometrical structures for better image reconstruction resolution, but this approach has also brought chaos since there exist the susceptibility to background light artifacts and electrical noise problems. Eventually DOT modality failed for better image quality and it has lack spatial accuracy.
