Özet

The stepover ratio determines in end milling how many times the tool passes again on a machined surface band and may apparently affect the final surface roughness. However, it is usually neglected without investigating it. The aim of this study is to analyse the influence of stepover ratio/distance on surface roughness when end milling steels. In order to separate particular influence of stepover, tests were performed under constant cutting parameters and varying stepover ratio of tool diameter between 10 and 100%. Surface roughness values of workpiece specimens are measured and machined surfaces are examined. It is observed that the stepover ratio remarkably influences the surface roughness. A zone between two passes is also observed and called as inferior zone which changes the surface formation of workpiece.
