Özet

The surface water of the Duger basin is one of the tributaries feeding the Burdur Lake, which is one of the lakes in the Turkish Lakes Region and designated as a Ramsar wetland. Local people in the region use surface water in agriculture and animal husbandry. This study aims to determine the heavy metal concentrations of the surface water of the Duger basin and to assess the effects of these heavy metals on human health. Therefore, 5 surface water samples collected from the study area were analyzed using the X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) spectrometry technique, and the heavy metal concentrations were determined. The heavy metal concentrations that may have toxicological element characteristics according to WHO 2004 were found to be Al (61.72 mg/lt), Co (3.35 mg/lt), Zn (3.06 mg/lt), Cu (2.16 mg/lt). The use of these surface water samples in agriculture and animal husbandry causes a risk for human health. Moreover, since it is located between the tributaries feeding the Burdur Lake puts many endangered living habitats at risk due to natural and anthropogenic pollutants. It is important to introduce a new strategic plan and to continue the studies for sustainable water quality and basin management in the region.
