Özet

© 2015 by Türkiye Klinikleri.Quetiapine is an atypical antipsychotics used for treatment of schizophrenia. The knowledge about the problems due to the use of quetiapine especially in children and adolescents, are scanty in the literature. A 16-year-old male patient with epilepsy, cerebral palsy and mentalmotor retardation diagnoses was admitted to our pediatric intensive care unit with the diagnosis of acute renal failure secondary to rhabdomyolysis. Rhabdomyolysis have been related with the use of quetiapine after the etiologic investigation. Quetiapine treatment was stopped and hemodialysis was performed. After changing to normal value of biochemical values and urine output, he was discharged from intensive care unit at day 11 of the treatment. We aim to present a case with severe rhabdomyolysis and acute renal failure that can be considered to be related to use of quetiapine. Use of quetiapine can be a reason for serious rhabdomyolysis. Therefore it can be recommended that doctors started to quetiapine therapy should recall the patients, especially children and adolescents, to evaluate for rhabdomyolysis after for awhile starting of the therapy.
